Photocopying of Military Identification Cards

Recent incidents regarding the photocopying of military identification cards and common access cards (CAC), by commercial establishments to verify military affiliation or provide government rates for service, have been reported.
Personnel are reminded that the photocopying of US Government Identification is a violation of Title 18, US Code Part I, Chapter 33, Section 701 and punishable by both fine and/or imprisonment.  Many military members, family members and DoD employees are unaware of this law.

Please pass to the lowest level and include in training for force protection, information security and OPSEC.

MARQUEZ — LEO Lieutenant General USAF, Retired At age 79, Leo Marquez died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, December 30, 2011. He is survived by his wife, the former Stella Alvarez of Las Cruces NM, and their children Diana Marquez, David Marquez, Paula Hewitt and her daughter Alisa; Patricia and Allan Knighten and their daughter Adrienne; Phil and Susan Marquez and their children Marisa, Brittanae Brown and Michael Birner, siblings Ruben and Pedie Marquez, Jim and Helen Marquez, Mary Ann Greiner and sister- in-law Esther Marquez and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Santiago and Emma Marquez, his brother Ben Marquez and sister, Carmen Baca. He was born on January 27, 1932 in Peralta, NM and grew up in the farming village of Tome, NM. Leo graduated from New Mexico State University’s Air Force ROTC program with a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology. He also earned a Master of Science degree in business administration from George Washington University. He was a distinguished graduate of the Air Command and Staff College and the National Defense College and received a Master of Business Administration degree from the Advanced Management Program for Executives, Carnegie-Mellon University. He was named a distinguished alumnus and received an Honorary Doctor of Letters from his Alma mater, New Mexico State University. He proudly served his country for 33 years as a US Air Force officer before retiring as a Lieutenant General. His many decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star with V for valor for combat in the Republic of Vietnam, Meritorious Service medal and Air Force Commendation medal with one oak leaf cluster. His last assignment was as Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics and Engineering, Headquarters US Air Force, Pentagon. He was a pilot with over 2000 hours in single engine jet fighters. His many noteworthy achievements include the approval and implementation of the Air Force Combat Ammunition Center known as “Ammo U” and the maintenance badge that all Air Force maintainers now wear so proudly just above the heart. The Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez Award of Maintenance Excellence was named and is earned by civilian and military Air Force maintenance personnel in recognition of superior service. Since retirement from the Air Force, he was an executive in several engineering and aerospace companies and served the state of New Mexico on the Kirtland Partnership Committee, New Mexico Military Base Planning Commission and as a regent of both New Mexico Tech University and the New Mexico Museum Board. Elections for the Ammo Chiefs Association

Gentlemen: The term of office of all the ACA Officers expires December 31st; elections for a four (4) year term of office will be held October 1st to October 22nd. Nominations are now open until September 27th. We encourage each of you to consider serving the ACA over the coming four years! Duties of the officers can be found in the ACA Constitution (attached).

The following positions must be filled (current incumbents noted): President (Darrell Beasley); Vice-President (Rich Pennington); Treasurer (Danny Bridges); Secretary (Fred O’Hern); Chief @ Arms (Tom Zima; Directors @ Large (Mark Gossett, John Cecere, Dwight Howard, Bart Ivy).

Please submit nominations to the Election Committee (Darrell, Rich, or Fred) not later than September 27th; individuals nominated must be annual Ammo Chief Members in good standing (i.e. dues paid for 2011) or Ammo Chief Life Members. A current Membership Roll of Ammo Chief Members in good standing is attached for your convenience.

Thought I’d give you an update on my condition.
Broken ribs (8). broken hip, concussion and busted tail bone…unauthorized flying lessons off the back deck from about 10-12 feet. Hard landing to say the least.
Spent 11 days in the hospital…lots of discussion about surgery or not on the hip…came home on 31 May with a plan to see if I’ll heal appropriately without surgery  I am bound to the the bed/chair…and no weight on left leg at all…for about three months. Go back to the ortho MD on 1 July for xrays and progress assessment.
Needless to say, it’s quite an adjustment for me…I’ve been very active all my life…and now I finally have to rely on someone else for very basic assistance.  Joyce has been a real trooper…couldn’t have done this bed/chair stuff withoutt her. Craig Sanders (retired Lt Col, SAC Ammo/EOD) lives in town and has been a real help to myself and Joyce.  Brother Mercer calls frequently and keeps me in line!
Thanx to all the ammo chief gang for the emails, calls and encouragement.

Van Ray was working on his back deck Friday, 20 May.  Says he does not remember how he did it, but he fell the twelve feet to the ground.  Long to short, he is in Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville NC w/ eight broken ribs (left), a broken left hip, and a mild concussion.
They tried to stay away from hip surgery, but according to Joyce, they meet with the Doctor first of the week. Nobody works the weekends anymore!

He does not feel well, so phone calls may not be the best way to go. As caregiver, Joyce has her hands full w/o trying to explain his injuries to 100 different folks. Be it they all have best intentions.
So perhaps just send notes to his email and Joyce can print them off for him.
